"What makes breastfeeding clothes sustainable?"

Mums and mums-to-be have their priorities when it comes to breastfeeding clothing. Perhaps comfortable / ease of use is the most important?  Style and fit? Colour? Quality and longevity? Maybe price? Many women want both value and sustainability from their nursing clothes.

But what does being “sustainable” really mean? At Ubere Mama, we are proud of our green credentials and the sustainability of our breastfeeding clothing range. That’s right … we see the two aspects differently.

Being environmentally friendly is very important to us. With this in mind, we source our fabric and sewing within the UK. We’re a British company working with British businesses. It’s wonderful to support our home economy and minimize our carbon footprint.

Our cottons are organic and we use recycled polyester, with all our zippers using recycled polyester tapes. We are proud members of the Wenta Net Zero Future scheme, having been awarded Bronze status. We’re aiming for the top, achieving Silver and then Gold awards – we’ll keep you updated.

Does being a green company offer true sustainability to our lovely customers? Partially.

The BIG sustainability benefit comes from our breastfeeding clothes themselves. Our fabric quality means your Ubere Mama nursing clothes will last for years. This means fewer repeat purchases, reduced journeys for shopping/delivery and decreased manufacturing energy. Clothes that truly last offer a far-reaching sustainability benefit.

Our materials are so soft and comfy that you’ll love your breastfeeding tops and want to wear them after weaning your baby. Yes – your nursing tops and hoodies are fabulous as everyday clothes after breastfeeding thanks to our invisible side zippers. They give excellent, convenient access during breastfeeding and offer style with ease after nursing.

‘It’s so important to enjoy wearing your breastfeeding clothes,’ says Ubere Mama’s Sarah-Jane Hingorani. ‘They offer you confidence and comfort as a nursing mum. Then, when you are no longer breastfeeding, they can be a staple part of your wardrobe, saving you valuable money. My breastfeeding hoody was one of the first garments I made. I love it. It’s so comfy and keeps its shape and colour. I still enjoy wearing it 12 years later!’ Many of our customers tell us they still have their hoody from their first baby and return to buy other styles for their second child.

If you’re looking for sustainability and value, choose breastfeeding clothes with longevity … ones using quality fabrics and stylish designs from an environmentally aware company. Avoid falling into the “buy cheap, buy twice” trap, achieving sustainability and value. And … we hope you enjoy wearing your breastfeeding clothes.
