Peaceful feeding…

Benefits of Breastfeeding

It's never too early to start thinking about how you're going to feed your baby. But you do not have to make up your mind until your baby is born.

In the UK, more than 73% of mothers start breastfeeding. These are some of the reasons why:

1.       Your breast milk is perfectly designed for your baby

2.        Breast milk protects your baby from infections and diseases

3.        Breastfeeding provides health benefits for you

4.        Breast milk is available for your baby whenever your baby needs it

5.        Breastfeeding can build a strong emotional bond between you and your baby

6.        Formula milk does not provide the same protection from illness and does not give you any health benefits.

Health benefits of breastfeeding for your baby

Breastfeeding has long-term benefits for your baby, lasting right into adulthood.

Any amount of breast milk has a positive effect. The longer you breastfeed, the longer the protection lasts and the greater the benefits.

Breastfeeding reduces your baby's risk of:

1.        Infections, with fewer visits to hospital as a result

2.        Diarrhea and vomiting, with fewer visits to hospital as a result

3.        Sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

4.        Childhood leukemia

5.        Obesity

6.        Cardiovascular disease in adulthood

About Breastfeeding

Giving nothing but breast milk is recommended for about the first 6 months (26 weeks) of your baby's life.

After that, giving your baby breast milk alongside family foods for as long as you and your baby want will help them grow and develop healthily.

Breast milk adapts as your baby grows to meet your baby's changing needs.

Health benefits of breastfeeding for you

Breastfeeding and making breast milk also has health benefits for you. The more you breastfeed, the greater the benefits. The hormones that are released during breastfeeding enable you to relax and bond with your baby. Not only that breastfeeding in the early weeks helps contract your Uterus.

Breastfeeding lowers your risk of:

1.        Breast cancer

2.        Ovarian cancer

3.        Osteoporosis (weak bones)

4.        Cardiovascular disease

5.        Obesity

GIve it a try-It took me about 3 weeks to actually get to grips with breastfeeding. Its like anything we do in life the more we experience it and practice-the more relaxed and better we become. One of the reasons I found it tricky was positioning and latching on in public and in clothing that wasn’t accessible.

I ended up breastfeeding for 3 years-and never thought I would continue for so long but I did! I also ended up building a business all around breastfeeding too! I developed tops to wear whilst breastfeeding so that I could feed comfortably anytime, anyplace anywhere.

I really believe its the best start in life you can give to your baby. Ubere Mama means Breastfeeding Mama in Latin and my brand will dress you for breastfeeding success.

I hope wherever you are reading this, in whatever country or language you can get the advice and help you need to breastfeed your little one! One last tip! I put Lansinoh cream on before and after each feed, which helped enormously in reducing any friction and sore areas.

If you want any more information about any of my products or to chat about breastfeeding-please join my mailing list as I send out monthly tips on breastfeeding , or for a more personalised response please mail me. Best of luck! xx
